About us

Magnus Ekström is the third generation of fishermen in his family. He lives in Hanko, the southernmost city of Finland, surrounded by the sea. Ekström’s fish shops and restaurants are located in Hanko and in Helsinki.

It was in Hanko where Magnus opened his first restaurant, På Kroken (“Hooked”). Nowadays loyal customers drive there from the capital region to enjoy the famous seafood buffet or to pick some specialities from the menu. Next to the restaurant is an all year round open fish shop and café, a meeting point for the locals and tourists alike.

In Helsinki, Ekström’s fish shop can be found at the Hakaniemi market hall. The counter is full of fresh fish, shellfish and different kinds of fish products. To get into that special Hanko-feeling, grab a bite or a refreshment at the På Kroken Bar while shopping!

The newest and greatest of Ekström’s restaurants will open in Helsinki this fall, stay tuned for big news.

På Kroken Helsinki – Scandinavian Seafood
OPENING 1.12.2018!

Due to popular demand, the renowned fish restaurant På Kroken in Hanko will now also serve customers in Helsinki in the legendary Salve premises on Hietalahti shore.

In addition to a great atmosphere, there will be an ample Scandinavian archipelago buffet, luxurious seafood platters, and seasonal fish and seafood (domestic and foreign) in various forms. Meat eaters will also be taken into account- the house’s pepper steak is a classic.

In the restaurant, it will be possible to choose to dine from a fine a la carte side or a relaxed bistro side. Both sides serve the best fish and seafood delicacies for fresh seafood lovers. The facilities also cater to the organization of various celebrations and events. The restaurant is open from lunchtime until late at night and in the evenings it is also possible to pop in for just a glass of wine or an appetizing cocktail. It is a pleasure to present domestic know-how and Finnish food traditions to foreign guests.

Restaurateur Magnus Ekström is a third generation chef and fisherman from Hanko. He has  great knowledge of the secrets of smoking fish. Magnus Ekström has gathered experience in the restaurant industry both in Finland and overseas, among others, in Sweden, from where he gained a love for homely cooking as well as chef role models.

Magnus Ekström not only hosts the På Kroken restaurants in Hanko and Helsinki, but also an archipelago cafe (with its nationally renowned salmon soup!) and a fishmonger in Hanko, as well as the Ekström fishmonger and attached champagne bar in Hakaniemi Kauppahalli in Helsinki.
